TC?s Emoto claims regional singles title

Tabor College women?s tennis player Jessica Emoto won the USTA/ITA Regional Championships held Sept. 18-20 at Nebraska Wesleyan.

The No. 1 seed in the women?s singles competition, Emoto enjoyed a first-round bye, then won five consecutive matches to claim the title.

In the finals against Aileen Fuchs of Morningside, Emoto came back from a 1-4 deficit to win 7-5, 6-0.

?Jessica played a very strong tournament,? coach John Ruder said. ?Jessica is not only an exceptional tennis player, she is an outstanding student and leader.

?She is an excellent example of what Tabor athletics stand for both on and off the court.?

With the victory, Emoto is one of eight women to qualify for the ITA small college NAIA national championship held in Sumter, S.C. Oct. 15-18.
