TC women beat NCAA Div. II team in soccer battle

Bear also contributed a goal in Tabor?s 2-1 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State Friday.The Tabor College women?s soccer team picked up its first win of the season Friday with a 2-1 decision over NCAA Division II opponent Northwestern Okla?homa State.
?It felt good just to get the win, but it’s a bit sweeter for all of us that it was against a quality (NCAA Division II) opponent,? said coach Ian Thomson. ?It was a physical and exciting game.
?We played as a team and defended against a very strong and athletic team for long stretches.?
After a scoreless first half, the Rangers scored in the 47th minute.
Lillian Bear countered for Tabor at 58:14, and Nicole Stevenson added the winning goal just more than 10 minutes later.
The Rangers outshot Tabor 19-5, including 8-4 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Kalee Cross had seven saves.
?We stayed organized,? Thomson said. ?Lillian and Nicole scored two beautiful goals, with a great service from Anna (Friesen) on the assist.
?This will give our young team confidence moving forward.?
Avila?The Bluejays lost a heart-wrenching 2-1 game Wednesday in their season opener.
?Overall, it was a good showing for our first game, coach Ian Thomson said. ?We?ll take things from this that will help us improve in the future.?
Tabor claimed a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute when Lillian Bear scored, assisted by Jessica Renzelman.
The Bluejays maintained that advantage for the next 14 minutes, but then Avila caught fire, scoring twice in a span of just more than five minutes.
Tabor took 12 shots, including eight on goal.
Goalkeeper Kalee Cross had six saves.
?We responded well in the last 10 minutes after giving up both goals,? Thomson said. ?We showed a lot of character moving forward by not giving up and throwing in the towel.?
Coming?Tabor will compete at the University of Science and Arts of ?Okla??homa Thursday at 1 p.m. and will travel to York Saturday for a 5 p.m. game.
