TC track teams earn 14 gold medals at home invitational

The Tabor track and field team had a full schedule last week with performances at the KU Relays and at the Bluejays? home invitational.

Tabor Invitational?Fourteen Bluejay events earned first place Friday.

The women enjoyed eight gold medals: Makenzie King in the 400 (1:03.05), Ashley Kemling in the 800 (2:30.37), Kristen Harris in the 400 hurdles (1:07.15, best in the KCAC), Emily Post?named KCAC Field Athlete of the Week?in the high jump (5 feet, 5 inches), long jump (16-1.5), and triple jump (37-5.25), Yvonne Brubacher in the pole vault (10-6), and Tynan Honn in the shot put (42-3.5).

Two women placed second: Harris in pole vault (10-0.1) and King in long jump (15-4.6).

The Bluejay men, meanwhile, were aided by six first-place finishes: Nathan Vogel in the 400 (50.99), Jacob Heil in the 1,500 (4:16.68) and 5,000 (16:08.01), Jacob Wenzl in the 400 hurdles (59.32), Joel Allen in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:28.46), and Michael Klaassen in the hammer (158-11.5).

Aaron Johnson placed second in the 800 (2:04.40), and three Bluejays took third: Garrett Daugherty in the 400 (52.28), Paul Williams in the 10,000 (36:33.19), and Klaassen in the shot put (45-0.9).

KU Relays?Tabor competed at the KU Relays last Wednesday through Saturday.

The Tabor men finished third in the 4×880 (7 minutes, 49.9 seconds) and qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National meet. Relay members are Phillip Magos, Bret Mueller, Garrett Daugherty and Nathan Vogel.

In the 800, Vogel tied for seventh (1:57.0), while Magos placed 10th (1:57.05).

For the women, Brielle Lund, Makenzie King, Kristen Harris and Ashley Kemling took fourth in the 4×880 (10:06.46).

Wichita State?Tabor competed at the KT Woodman Classic April 12-13.

?This was another one of those meets where the competition level was very high, so school records, PRs or season bests were the goal,? coach Dave Kroeker said.

Twelve athletes set personal records on the day, he added. Five placed in the top 10 of their respective events: Joel Allen, fourth in the 10,000 (32 minutes, 26.6 seconds, a new school record); Tynan Honn, fourth in shot put (42 feet); Michael Klaassen, seventh in the hammer throw (160-1); Hannah Holmes, eighth in the 10,000 (44:32.88); and Kristen Harris tied the school record with an eighth-place finish in pole vault (10-6).

Two runners set school records in the 5,000: Brielle Lund (18:53.11) and Jacob Heil (15:33.97).
