TC tops KW, ends 21-game loss streak

The Tabor College softball team earned a split last Wed?nesday at Kansas Wesleyan, and in the process snapped a 21-game conference losing streak dating back to April 2007.

Tabor (1-5 KCAC, 4-23 overall) was swept by Bethany Saturday in Lindsborg.

Tabor stranded eight runners on base as it fell to Bethany College 8-0 in the first game, being shutout despite Danielle Cronauer?s 3-for-3 effort from the plate. Dorene Dodson pitched.

In the second game, Tabor led 2-0 halfway through the third, but the Swedes breached the Bluejay defense to score five runs off of Cronauer in the bottom half. From there, Bethany cruised to a 9-3 win.

Megan Wedal singled twice, stole two bases and scored one of Tabor?s runs. Kezia Cabrera singled, doubled, stole a base and scored a run. Jolynn Padilla also scored. Dodson and Alyssa Voth each had an RBI single.

Cronauer pitched six innings recording five strikeouts and no walks, but allowing eight earned runs on 15 hits.

Against Kansas Wesleyan, Tabor built a 4-3 lead before a 2-run seventh lifted the Coyotes to a 5-4 victory in the opener.

Janelle Medrano slapped three singles. Dodson and Cabrera each singled and scored, and Voth blasted her first home-run of the season, netting two RBI.

Dodson was saddled with the loss after recording the first out of the sixth. She held K-W to five hits while striking out eight, but also walked eight.

In game two, Tabor used a five run fifth inning to upend Kansas Wesleyan 6-4. Medrano, Padilla and Cronauer, each with one RBI, helped Wedal turn her two singles into two runs scored. Rodriguez, Medrano, Padilla and Dodson each scored once.

Cronauer paired four walks with four strikeouts and four hits with four runs allowed in seven innings.

?We were tied or led in 13 out of the 14 innings against (Kansas Wesleyan),? coach John Bassett said. ?I feel like we've turned a corner in the last week and we're about to see some of our team's potential realized.?

Coming?Tabor visited Friends at 5 p.m. Tuesday and will host Sterling at 5 p.m. Thursday and Mid America Christian at 2 p.m. Friday before visiting Ottawa at 1 p.m. Saturday.
