TC softball loses two to Northwestern

The Tabor College softball team lost two games to Northwestern Friday in its home-opener.

Tabor suffered a 2-0 defeat in Game 1. After four scoreless innings, the Red Raiders scored two runs off two hits in the top of the fifth. Tabor left two runners on base in the game.

Brianna Quiroz was 2-for-3 at-bat. Hannah Jones was 1-for-1.

Madison Byrd absorbed the pitching loss. In seven innings, she gave up three hits and two earned runs. She walked two batters and struck out 11.

Tabor lost Game 2, 6-4, despite out-hitting the Red Raiders, 11-9.

Northwestern scored three runs off three hits in the first half-inning. Tabor scratched its first run across in the bottom half of the inning when Madison Byrd was hit by a pitch, Brianna Quiroz hit a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner and Hannah Jones drove in a run with an RBI single. Tabor left three on base in the frame.

The visitors scored two runs in the top of the third and once more in the fourth.

Trailing 6-1, Tabor narrowed the gap with a three-run bottom of the fifth. In that inning, Tabor plated its first run off Sierra Becerra’s ground out, then scored a second run via a Red Raider error. Ariana Landeros drove in Tabor’s third run with an RBI single.

Tabor stranded three runners on base in the bottom of the sixth and one in the bottom of the seventh.

Jones was 3-for-3 at-bat and had one RBI.

Quiroz absorbed the pitching loss. In 22⁄3 innings, she surrendered six hits and five earned runs. She walked three batters and struck out no one.

Coming—Tabor (1-6) was scheduled to play at Mid-America Christian Tuesday and will host Dordt Friday.
