TC softball begins season with 2 wins

The Tabor College softball team opened its season with two wins over Langston University Saturday.

Tabor won Game 1, 13-12. The Bluejays led, 4-2, after the first inning, but Lang?ston held Tabor scoreless the next three innings for a 9-4 advantage going into the fifth inning.

The Bluejays scored three runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to tie the game, then outscored Langston 4-3 in the final inning to claim the win.

Katie Henning was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, Lauren Massey 3-for-5 and two RBIs, Megan Taylor 2-for-4 with one RBI, Madison Tracy 2-for-5 with one RBI, Araselly Vargas 1-for-5 for four RBIs and Sarah Massey 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Taylor and Vargas hit doubles.

Winning pitcher Jaycie Morris threw 61?3 innings, allowing 16 hits and 12 runs (nine earned) while striking out four. Marilee Burge earned the save.

Tabor followed with an 8-6 victory in Game 2. The Bluejays enjoyed a four-run first inning and added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings before Langston scored in the bottom of the fifth. Tabor held off its foe down the stretch to win by two.

Tracy was 3-for-4, including a double and one RBI, Ashton Bowen was 1-for-2 with one RBI, and Sarah Massey was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Vargas hit a double.

Burge was awarded the win. She allowed nine hits and six runs (four earned) while walking no one and striking out two.

Coming?Tabor (2-0) was scheduled to play at Central Christian Tuesday and will host Central Christian Thursday at 4 p.m. Tabor will host York College Saturday at 1 p.m.
