TC soccer teams zap Bethany, but stumble at McPherson

The Tabor College women’s soccer team shook off the cold weather and claimed its first conference victory via a 3-0 shut out over visiting Bethany on Saturday. The men?s team hammered Bethany 7-0 as Andy Adrian exploded for three goals and Nicholas Ouzounis added one of his own to carry the Bluejays into the break with a 4-0 lead.

Tabor’s offense continued to fire on all cylinders in the second half, as freshman David Simmet, Marcos Bandeira and Ouzounis scored. Liam Mclean assisted on goals by Ouzounis and Simmet, while Robert Masson and JD Tippin assisted on two of Adrian?s goals. Adrian had the helper on Bandiera?s goal.

Aaron Schmucker stopped all three shots he faced and has posted three shutouts so far..

The men?s team was stymied 3-0 at McPherson, managing just eight shots and only one shot on goal. The Bulldogs applied steady pressure and generated 19 shots, beating Schmucker twice in the first half.

The men?s team (2-1 KCAC, 5-6-1 Overall) hosts Southwestern College at 7 p.m. today (Oct. 14). The Bluejays host Ottawa at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Women?Jessica Burden found the back of the net to give the Bluejays an early lead, and with just under four minutes to play in the first half Leigh Costello scored off a pass from Sam Pequin for a 2-0 halftime lead.

Tabor added its third goal of the match midway through the second half, as Pequin set up Burden?s second goal.

Keeper Aubrey Whitehorn recorded five saves on the way to her third shutout of the season.

The Bluejays fell to McPherson 3-2 Oct. 7.

Burden gave Tabor the lead 16 minutes into the match, but McPherson tied it on a penalty kick. Burden broke down the left side and drove a long shot past the Bulldogs keeper for a 2-1 lead three minutes into the second half. McPherson tied it with a rebound goal and netted the winner on a tic-tac-toe passing play with three minutes remaining.

Whitehorn stopped 11 shots in the match.

The women?s team (1-2, 3-7-1 overall) hosts Southwestern College at 5 p.m. today (Oct. 14) and will host Ottawa at 1 p.m. Saturday.
