TC men?s soccer advances to semis

The Bluejays defeated Sterling, 5-0, and will face McPherson College Friday in a semifinal match.The Tabor men?s soccer team advanced to the semifinal round of the KCAC men?s soccer championships after blanking Sterling, 5-0, Friday.

Sterling?Tabor entered the championships as the No. 3 seed with a 5-2-2 conference record and 11-5-2 overall. Tabor defeated No. 6 Sterling (4-4-1, 7-9-1) in the quarterfinals, 5-0.

Arturo Golembiewski scored Tabor?s first goal after an assist by Alberto Checa. Checa then knocked in Tabor?s second goal, assisted by Joshua Damian, for a 2-0 halftime lead.

Tabor followed with three more goals in the second half by Bransyn Felty (assist Philipp Wahl), Zane Klein (assist Damian) and Wahl (assist Michel Matias).

Goalkeeper Antoine Williams recorded five saves.

Bethel?The Tabor men concluded the regular season with a 4-1 win over Bethel.

The Threshers struck first, but it would be Bethel?s only goal of the night.

Alberto Checa, assisted by Arturo Golembiewski, got Tabor on the board with a goal at 40:21. Later, Michel Matias scored after an assist by Zane Klein. Joe Lopez knocked in Tabor?s third goal, and Golembiewski completed the scoring with a goal at the 80:17 mark.

Tabor outshot Bethel 20-5.

Goalkeeper Antoine Williams had three saves.

Coming?With the quarterfinal win over Sterling, Tabor will face No. 2 McPher?son (7-2, 10-7)?in a semifinal match Friday at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka. The game is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.

The winner will play either No. 1 Kansas Wes?leyan (7-0-2, 11-4-2) or No. 4 Bethany (4-2-3, 9-4-4)?in the championship match to follow at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Tabor faced McPherson Oct. 23 and dropped a 2-1 loss in double overtime.
