TC football sets coaching staff

With the addition of special-teams co-coordinator Edward King, the Tabor College football coaching staff is now in place.

Head coach Mike Gottsch describes King as someone with ?great character? who will ?make an immediate impact on the lives of students.?

The Bluejays? newest addition will coach defensive line and outside linebackers as well as serving as special teams co-coordinator.

?I was looking specifically for a defensive coach,? Gottsch said. ?Edward?s background and experience tie into exactly what I was looking for in an assistant.?

King most recently was defensive coordinator at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Goodwell, Okla.

Previously, he was assistant football coach and sports information director at Sitanka University, Huron, S.D. and assistant football coach at Bacone College, Muskogee, Okla.

Randy Brazil joins the coaching staff as offensive assistant and running backs coach. A former Bluejay and teammate of Gottsch, Brazil is ?detail-oriented? and someone who ?goes the extra mile.?

?Randy was a fine football player when he was here at Tabor,? Gottsch said. ?He possessed some great athletic abilities and skills.?

Brazil graduated from Tabor in 1991.

Jeff Podzimek joined the staff in March as defensive coordinator. Podzimek came from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he was assistant football coach and supervised the academic progress of student-athletes. ?Jeff surfaced as one who was highly capable and qualified, and who was exactly what we?re looking for at Tabor,? Gottsch said. ?I?m more than satisfied with him and what he brings to the table.?

Rounding out the staff are four graduates of Tabor?s 2006-07 team: offensive assistant/offensive linemen coach Grant Myers, defensive assistant/defensive linemen coach Ben Ottoson, secondary defensive assistant/ defen?sive backs coach Joe Fenske, and assistant offensive coach/tight ends coach Bobby Hurd.
