TC baseball starts season 4-0

The Tabor College baseball team kicked off the 2016 season with four victories in Texas last week, outscoring its opponents 49-12.

Hannibal-LaGrange?Tabor concluded its Texas trip with an 11-2 win Saturday in its second meeting with the Trojans that weekend.

The game was tied at 2 after the first inning, but beginning with a two-run third inning, Tabor plated more run support for starter Jesus Brito, who scattered four hits over his next four innings of work.

Tabor scored four runs on four hits in the top of the fourth to take a 8-2 lead. Manny DeLeon keyed the inning by launching a two-run home run off reliever Cole Lankford.

The Bluejays added one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Alex Couch was 3-for-4 at-bat and had one RBI. Kaden Cline batted in three runs.

Brito earned the win. He scattered six hits and two earned runs over five innings of work. He walked one batter and struck out one.

Dallas Christian?In its first outing Saturday, Tabor earned a 13-0 shutout.

Manny DeLeon highlighted a four-hit, five-run first inning with a two-run double.

Tabor plated one run in the third and two more in the fourth, thanks to a two-run single off the bat of DeLeon.

Tabor scored five runs on three hits and an error in the fifth inning to conclude scoring. Jerrik Sigg drove in three runs with a double.

DeLeon was 2-for-4 at-bat and had five RBIs. Michael Baca and Sigg were 2-for-3.

Cedric Rodriguez earned the pitching win, scattering five hits over five innings. He walked one batter and struck out one.

Midland?In its second game Friday, Tabor won, 13-7.

After Midland took a 2-0 lead, Tabor took the lead for good with a six-hit, six-run top of the second. Tabor benefitted from two Midland errors.

Leading 6-4 after three, Tabor plated four runs in the fourth inning. Manny DeLeon launched a three-run home run off Justin Meyer to key the half-inning.

The Bluejays added a run in the fifth. Midland scored two in the sixth. Tabor scored two more in the seventh off the bats of Brent McClure and DeLeon. Midland added a final run in the bottom half of the inning.

DeLeon was 3-for-5 at-bat and had five RBIs.

Greg Turner earned the win, giving up six hits and three earned runs in five innings. He walked two batters and struck out two.

Hannibal-LaGrange?Tabor opened the season with a 12-3 victory Friday.

The Bluejays scored twice in the bottom of the second inning off the bat of Joel Frias to take a 2-1 lead. After the Trojans regained the lead with two runs in the top of the third, Tabor took the lead for good with four runs on four hits and an error in the bottom half of the inning. The inning was highlighted by back-to-back doubles by Dalton Iveans and Frias..

Thomas Longworth gave up just two hits in his next three innings. Meanwhile the Bluejays scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Colton Flax highlighted the fourth inning with an RBI double, while Brent McClure hit a two-run home run to key the fifth inning.

Longworth earned the win, scattering five hits and three unearned runs over six innings of work. He walked no one and struck out one batter.

Tabor recorded 12 hits in the game and benefitted from seven Trojan errors. Alex Couch was 3-for-4 at-bat. Frias drove in four runs on 2-for-4 hitting.

Coming?Tabor will host Dakota Wesleyan this weekend in its homeopener. Game 1 of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. Saturday. The teams will play a nine-inning game Sunday at 2 p.m.
