The Tabor College cross-country team opened its season at the Bearcat Open at Northwest Missouri State Friday.
Freshman Emily Kemling paved the way for the women with a third-place finish among the 49-runner field. She completed the 5-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 55.8 seconds. Just seconds behind, sophomore Julie Loewen placed fifth in 21:00.5.
Completing the team, Katey Whitesell was 17th (22:19.7), Lindsay Crist 29th (24:23.3) and Maggie Ramirez 39th (26:24.8).
As a team, the women finished third of sixth with a score of 80 behind MidAmerica (32) and Northwest Missouri State (52).
Meanwhile, Thomas Bacon paved the way for the men in the 4-mile run. He placed 22nd among 34 finishers with a time of 25:48.4.
Adam Burum was 23rd (26:03.1), Josh Richert 24th (26:22.7) and Riley Ballou-Lyngstad 27th (28:39.9).
Coming—Tabor will host an invitational meet Sept. 23.
