Tabor’s Cheatham qualifies for NAIA Indoor Nationals

Tabor College shot-put thrower Austin Cheatham qualified for the NAIA Indoor Nationals during the Johnson Community College Cavalier Night Indoor Relays on Friday.

His throw of 52 feet, 93⁄4 inches is a new Tabor indoor record and 3 feet farther than his previous best. Cheatham is a redshirt freshman from Hesston.

Other highlights included Robert Phillips’ weight throw of 52-0 even, a new Tabor and personal indoor record. Phillips is a senior from San Diego, Calif.

Shevon Blair, a junior from Jamaica, ran the 600-meter run in 1:23.05.

Marah Franz, a sophomore from Hillsboro, cleared 10 feet in the pole vault.

“Of the six Tabor throwers, five set indoor personal records at the meet,” said head coach Dave Kroeker.

The Bluejays will compete next at the Concordia Classic indoor meet hosted by Concordia University Jan. 26-27.
