Tabor women win two more

Katelin Horstick scores to increase Tabor?s lead to 47-36 in the second half at Sterling Thursday. Horstick scored 10 points in Tabor?s 74-53 victory.The Tabor College women improved to 11-3 in the KCAC and 16-8 overall with wins over Sterling and McPherson last week.

McPherson?Tabor withstood a late Bulldog rally to win by 13 Saturday, 67-54.

The teams traded scores to open the contest. Tabor led 13-10 when Nikki Lewis made a three-pointer at the 13:44 mark.

McPherson tied it at 15 with a three-pointer, but Tena Loewen scored six straight points for Tabor. Tonisha Dean followed with a three-pointer that put Tabor firmly in front, 24-15, with 6:08 left in the half.

When Janelle Rust followed another Loewen basket with a three-pointer, the Bluejays? margin was up to double figures, 29-17.

Tabor?s lead dipped to single digits at 33-24 after McPherson hit a three, but Dean made a three-pointer nine seconds later. Tabor enjoyed a double-digit advantage the duration of the first half and led 39-26 at the break.

The Bluejays led 54-38 with 9:00 left in the game and it appeared Tabor had things firmly under control. But the Bulldogs scored 10 unanswered points, cutting the deficit to 54-48 with 5:09 remaining.

Rust and Lewis then took things into their own hands, scoring the next 11 points to give Tabor a 65-48 cushion with 2:05 to play. McPherson outscored Tabor 6-2 in the last 1:03 for the final 13-point margin.

Rust led all scorers with 19 points. Dean added 15, Loewen 14 and Lewis 13.

Sterling?Tabor defeated Sterling, 74-53, Thursday night on the road. The Bluejays led by as many as 16 points in the first half, 26-10, but Sterling cut the lead to eight at halftime, 40-32.

Tabor increased its advantage to 45-32 when Nikki Lewis drained a three-pointer.

After the Warriors reduced the deficit to 45-36, Katelin Horstick scored back-to-back baskets to push the lead back to 13.

Sterling outscored Tabor 8-2 to close the gap to 51-44 with 12:02 left in the game.

Mallory Zuercher answered with a three-pointer, but a Warrior three later brought Sterling within 58-49.

Another Zuercher three ignited a 14-0 run that put the Bluejays firmly in control at 72-49 after Kaleigh Troxell scored with 3:38 to go. From there, Tabor cruised to the 21-point victory.

Lewis led the Bluejays with 14 points. Janelle Rust added 12, Zuercher 11 and Horstick 10. Tena Loewen grabbed 12 rebounds.

Coming?Tabor will host Ottawa (10-4, 14-10) Thursday at 6 p.m. and will travel Saturday to No. 11 South?western (14-0, 22-3) for a 5 p.m. contest.
