Tabor tennis teams face stiff KCAC competition

The Tabor College tennis teams opened conference play last week and faced stiff competition.

The Bluejay men lost three to fall to 0-2 in KCAC play, 1-6 overall. The Tabor women split two to move to 0-1, 3-3.

Bethany?The Tabor men faced the 12th-ranked Swedes Saturday and lost, 9-0.

In doubles competition, Kelyn Vix and Tyler Dort lost to Mensford Owusu and Aaron Moses, 8-4; Harry Faber and Luis Navarrete fell to Amir Rahbar and Tucker Clary, 8-2; and Darian Flores and Jared Friesen lost to Andreas Brune and David Barbieri, 8-0.

Singles scores were as follows: Vix lost to Owusu (6-2, 6-3); Dort lost to Rahbar (6-2, 6-1); Navarrete fell to Moses (6-1, 6-3); Faber dropped to Clary (6-1, 6-2); Flores was defeated by Brune (6-2, 6-2); and Friesen lost to Barbieri (6-0, 6-0).

McPherson?Both Tabor teams suffered losses Saturday, but coach John Ruder said his athletes ?played really well.?

The Bluejay women lost, 8-1. Kiana Fujioka picked up Tabor?s lone win in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-4, over Ashley Allmon.

In other singles action, Becky Faber lost to Emma Sheehan (6-2, 6-4); Anna Friesen fell to Nichole Vorhess (6-2, 6-3); Celeste Worthy was defeated by Brooke Vorhess (6-4, 6-1); Krista Schmidt lost to Brittany Gourlay (6-0, 6-0); and Karly Lindroth-Yates lost to Claire Crossman (7-5, 6-2).

Competing in doubles, Faber and Lindroth-Yates dropped to Brooke Vorhess and Nichole Vorhess, 8-2; Friesen and Yvonne Nachtigal lost to Sheehan and Gourlay, 8-3; and Schmidt and Fujioka lost to Chandler Short and Kara Wright, 8-0.

The Tabor men lost to a McPherson squad receiving votes in the Coaches? Top 25 poll, 9-0.

All three doubles teams lost to McPherson by the same, 8-3, margin.

In the singles matches, Kelyn Vix lost to Rafael Bulnes (6-1, 6-3); Tyler Dort fell to Joan-Marc Fajula Rodriguez (6-0, 6-2); Luis Navarrete was defeated by Mark Mahan (1-6, 6-7 (2-7)); Harry Faber lost to Allen Darmawan (6-1, 6-0); Darian Flores lost to Jaime Roman (6-0, 6-0); and Jared Friesen dropped to Jordan Stewart (6-4, 6-2).

Baker?The women defeated Baker, 6-3, Tuesday.

Tabor took two of three doubles matches:?Anna Friesen and Celeste Worthy won, 8-3; and Kiana Fujioka and Krista Schmidt won, 8-2. Becky Faber and Karly Lindroth-Yates lost, 8-2.

In singles action, four Bluejays earned wins:?Faber, Friesen, Worthy and Fujioka.

The Tabor men, meanwhile, lost 5-4.

In doubles action, Kelyn Vix and Tyler Dort won, 8-5; Luis Navarrete and Harry Faber lost, 8-5; and Jared Friesen and Jeff Pritchard lost, 8-1.

The Bluejays split the singles matches. Earning wins were:?Vix, Dort and Navarrete.

Coming?Tabor was scheduled to host Southwestern Tuesday and will travel to Ottawa Thursday, where action is set to begin at 3 p.m.
