The Tabor tennis teams faced three conference opponents last week, with the men winning two of three and the women dropping all three contests.

Southwestern? The Bluejays traveled to Southwestern Saturday. The men won 8-1 over the 0-3, 1-13 Moundbuilders, and the women fell, 5-4, to a Southwestern team holding a 2-1 KCAC record, 6-7 overall.

Scores are as follows: Kelyn Vix and Tyler Dort defeated Josh Sapp and Max Manley, 8-5; Nate Panttaja and Jared Friesen defeated Nick Morris and Michael Bond, 8-4; and Sam Brucks and Darryn Davis beat Jessie Riggs and Taylor Satterthwaite, 8-2.

Tabor gained wins in No. 1-5 singles: David Simmet defeated Sapp, 6-1, 6-2; Vix defeated Manley, 6-3, 6-2; Dort defeated Morris, 6-2, 6-0; Panttaja won over Bond, 1-6, 6-4, (10-2); and Jake Brucks defeated Riggs, 6-2, 6-1. Davis fell to Dillon, 6-4, 1-6, 5-7 in the No. 6 spot.

?All eight of our players turned in outstanding performances,? coach John Ruder said.

With the win, Tabor improved to 3-1 in the KCAC, 4-7 overall.

For the women, two Tabor defaults because of injury caused the Bluejays to lose by one.

?Krista Schmidt?who has been playing through the pain of shin splints?was unable to go on Saturday, forcing us to default our No. 3 doubles and our No. 6 singles matches,? Rider said. ?Of the seven matches played, Tabor was 4-3, giving us a moral victory even though the official match was lost 4-5.?

In doubles, Becky Faber and Katie Becker fell to Melissa Roetzer and Sara Peck, 8-5; and Anna Friesen and Karly Lind?roth-Yates defeated Tyler Harrell and Hayley Fort, 8-2.

In singles, Faber defeated Roetzer, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5); Friesen defeated Smith, 6-4, 6-4; Lind?roth-Yates fell to Peck, 6-2, 6-2; Becker defeated Abby Gengler, 6-1, 6-3; and Marisa Hiett fell to Haley Porter, 6-7 (5-7) 1-6.

With the loss, the Bluejays dropped to 1-3 in the KCAC, 2-8 overall.

Bethel?Tabor lost to conference foe Bethel College Thursday.

The Tabor men fell, 7-2, to the Threshers?2-1 in the KCAC, 8-3 overall, but coach John Ruder said the Bluejays played some good matches.

All three doubles teams lost: David Simmet and Nate Panttaja fell to Clinton Chlumsky and Jesse Voth-Gaeddert, 8-3; Kelyn Vix and Tyler Dort dropped an 8-4 contest to Logan Palenske and David Tedone; and Jake Brucks and Sam Brucks fell to Michael Herelle and Chris Soosalu, 8-5.

Tabor?s two victories came in No. 5 and No. 6 singles when Jake Brucks defeated Soosalu, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3; and Sam Brucks defeated Herelle, 6-4, 6-3.

In other singles, Simmet fell to Palenske, 6-1, 6-2; Vix lost to Chlumsky, 6-2, 6-3; Dort dropped a 7-5, 6-1 game to Voth-Gaeddert and Panttaja fell, 6-1, 6-0, to Tedone.

The Tabor women, meanwhile, lost 8-0 to a Thresher team leading the KCAC at 3-0, 8-3 overall.

?Bethel is most likely the best women?s team in our conference,? Ruder said.

In doubles, Becky Faber and Katie Becker lost to Steph Shogren and Miranda Weaver, 8-1; Anna Friesen and Karly Lindroth-Yates dropped to Bree Honer and Ashley Koester, 8-0; and Krista Schmidt and Marisa Hiett fell to Allie Hipp and Madelyn Weaver, 8-3.

Tabor followed with six losses in singles. Faber fell to Honer, 6-2, 6-0, and Friesen fell to Miranda Weaver, 6-0, 7-5 in No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Lindroth-Yates fell to Koester, 6-0, 6-0; Becker lost to Shogren, 6-0, 6-0; Schmidt lost to Hipp, 6-1, 6-3; and Hiett fell to Suhr, 6-1, 6-2.

Kansas Wesleyan? The Bluejays hosted Kansas Wesleyan April 8, with the men and women splitting their matches.

The Tabor men defeated Kansas Wesleyan, 8-1.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of David Simmet and Nate Panttaja defeated Fernando Soto and Leonardo Mendez, 8-4. Kelyn Vix and Tyler Dort followed suit with an 8-5 victory over Alejandro Casanova and Alex White.

Jake Brucks and Sam Brucks lost to Scott Weber and Adam Watson 8-9 (6-8).

The Bluejays swept singles: Simmet defeated Mendez, 6-2, 6-1; Vix beat Soto, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2); Dort defeated Casanova, 6-2, 6-1; Panttaja defeated over White, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2); Jake Brucks defeated Weber, 6-1, 3-0; and Sam Brucks beat Watson, 6-1, 6-2.

The women, meanwhile, lost to the Coyotes 8-1.

Becky Faber picked up Tabor?s only win with a three-set, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, victory over Janel Prather in No. 1 singles.

Tabor played without Meredith Voran, who suffered a season-ending injury at Friends April 6, Ruder said. Marisa Hiett, who played tennis last year, will fill the void the duration of the season.

?This gives the women six players and keeps them from forfeiting a doubles and singles match,? Ruder said.

The doubles teams dropped all three matches. Faber and Katie Becker lost to Jeni Walters and Tia Irwin, 8-6; Anna Friesen and Karly Lindroth-Yates lost an 8-5 contest to Prather and Valario Zuanzabar; and Krista Schmidt and Hiett fell to Maria Rodriguez and Morgan Schrock, 8-4.

In singles, Friesen fell to Irwin, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6; Lindroth-Yates lost to Walters, 6-2, 6-3; Becker fell to Eastwood, 6-4, 6-1; Schmidt lost to Valario Zuanzabar, 6-4, 1-0; and Hiett lost to Rodriguez, 6-3, 6-0.

?I think the letdown over the loss of Meredith Voran for the season had a definite mental effect on our team,? Ruder said.
