Tabor swim team opens season last week

The Tabor College swim team opened its season at Oklahoma Baptist Thursday.

“This was a very early meet and a chance to see where we are at the start of the season,” coach Nate Duell said. “I was extremely satisfied with our results. The swimmers have answered all of our challenges thus far in training, and I’m glad they got a chance to see how it pays off.” 

The Bluejays turned in three national-qualifying times: John McCullough, Nick Bradley, Jacob Rudolph and Evan Bell in the men’s 200-yard medley relay (1 minute, 48.86 seconds) good for fifth; Rudolph, McCullough, Bell and Brett Magee in the 200 free relay (1:33.94) good for third; and Kelly Smith, Kianna Hinerman, Kaitlin Whitten and Aleya Hill in the women’s 200 free relay (1:51.55) good for fourth.

McCullough set a new school record in the 100 butterfly with a sixth-place finish in 58.53.

Additional women’s results were as follows.

Michal Parris, Angela Smith, Hill and Kelly Smith were fourth in the 200-yard medley (2:11.53).

In the 50 free, Kelly Smith was fourth (26.56), Hinerman 12th (29.76) and Sarah Schulte tied for 14th (31.51).

Kelly Smith was fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:09.80) and Schulte ninth (1:19.33).

Kaitlin Whitten was fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:14.79), while Hill was sixth in that event (2:15.37).

Angela Smith was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:13.88) and Schulte seventh (1:18.72).

In the 100 breaststroke, Angela Smith was fifth (1:18.34), Kelly Smith seventh (1:21.78) and Hinerman ninth (1:28.80).

In the 100 freestyle, Whitten was sixth (1:00.52), Hill ninth (1:04.61) and Hinerman 11th (1:08.03).

Meanwhile, additional men’s results were as follows.

In the 200 individual medley, McCullough was third (2:11.27) and Bradley fifth (2:24.91).

In the 100 free, Bell was fourth (51.90), Magee fifth (54.73), Rudolph sixth (55.53) and Bradley seventh (56.07).

Bell was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.39).

McCullough was fifth in the 500 free (5:11.21), while Danny Smith was sixth (5:51.36).

In the 200 freestyle, Bell was fifth (1:56.06) and Smith sixth (2:07.48).

Magee was eighth in the 50 free (23.83). Rudolph was ninth (24.07). Bradley was eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.57).

Coming—Tabor will compete at Iowa Lakes Oct. 8.
