Tabor softball team improves to 5-1 with four straight wins

The Tabor College softball team was scheduled to play five games in two days at the McPherson tournament Friday and Saturday. The tournament was canceled due to weather.

Instead, the Bluejays swept 0-8 Langston University (0-8), 10-0 and 12-3, in a Saturday doubleheader at Langston, Okla.

Freshman pitcher Roxanne Rodriguez pitched a complete-game four-hit shutout in the first game, striking out eight batters.

Junior infielder Roxie Rodriguez went 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBI. Audrey Whitehorn went 3-for-4 with a run batted in.

In the second game, Katelin Thompson pitched five innings, giving up two earned runs.

Catcher Debbie Martinez knocked in three runs for the Bluejays, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate. Amanda Howe was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The doubleheader sweep improved Tabor?s record to 5-1, with four wins in a row.

Tabor starts KCAC play this week, hosting Ottawa Tuesday. The doubleheader starts at 4 p.m. Ottawa is 6-4 coming off a 8-3 loss at home Saturday to Mount Mercy College.

The Bluejays are scheduled Wednesday, to play 2-11 Central Christian College in McPherson. This will be the third time Tabor has scheduled a game with the Tigers. Doubleheaders scheduled for March 8 and March 10 were called off due to weather.

Finishing the week at the Sterling College Tournament, Tabor will start the two-day, five-game stretch against 0-1 Haskell Indian Nations University at noon. At 2 p.m., the Bluejays will play St. Mary and finish Friday with an 8 p.m. rematch with Langston.

Tabor starts Saturday against York (Neb.) College at noon. Tabor swept York, 5-2 and 7-0, March 6. The Bluejays will end the weekend with a 4 p.m. matchup with 1-9 Graceland University from Lamoni, Iowa.
