Tabor softball finishes week 3-3

Playing in three doubleheaders, the Tabor College softball team finished the week 3-3 and seven games away from first in the KCAC standings.

The Bluejays started the week April 14 in Sterling. Following an opening game 1-0 loss, Tabor rallied with a 4-1 win in the second game.

Roxanne Rodriguez pitched a complete game, picking up the pitching victory in the second game. The freshman struck out three, allowing three hits and one earned run.

Tabor extended its winning streak to three with a doubleheader sweep of St. Mary on Thursday.

The Bluejays beat the Squires 2-0. in the first game and 2-1 after nine innings in the nightcap.

Roxanne Rodriguez pitched two complete games. She pitched 16 innings and struck out 12 allowing eight hits and one run.

Playing cather and firstbase, Taylor Funk was 2-for-5 with a homerun and three runs scored.

Ending the three game winning streak, the Bluejays hosted Friends, who is currently tied for the second spot in the KCAC with Bethany College.

Tabor played the Falcons close but fell 6-5 after eight innings in the first game and in the last game.

Holding a 5-1 lead headed into the top of the seventh, Tabor gave up four runs in the top of the seventh and failed to score in the bottom half to send the contest to extra-innings.

In the top of the eighth, Friends scored a run that went unanswered by the Bluejays to win the game.

Friends scored a run in the top of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie in the second game and complete the sweep of Tabor.

Tabor (14-21, 5-7) have more than doubled 2009?s win total. The Bluejays will host Kansas Wesleyan on Wednesday, then finish the regualr season Saturday by hosting Bethany. The doubleheaders start at 1 p.m.
