Tabor softball finishes season 16-25

Tabor softball ended its season on a four-game losing streak, losing two in the KCAC tournament in Hillsboro Friday.

Tabor (16-25, 7-9) opened the tournament with a 4-3 loss to No. 4 seed Southwestern in 12 innings. Kansas Wesleyan eliminated the Bluejays 7-1, in Tabor?s second game Friday.

In the bottom of the seventh against Southwestern, freshman Taylor Funk single-handedly made every out of the inning. Playing first base, the Bluejay captain recorded the first out by running down a Moundbuilder bunt that popped up down the first base line.

Funk made the second and third outs by catching a line drive to first and tagging the South?western runner, who had taken a lead.

In the extra innings, both teams threatened, but no one scored until Southwestern managed the game-winning run.

Tabor improved dramatically from 2009, when the Bluejays finished 6-34 overall, 2-14 in the KCAC.

Freshman pitcher Roxanne Rodriguez was named KCAC first team. Ashley Cohlmia and Funk received second-team honors, and Aubrey Whitehorn received honorable mention.

Ottawa won the KCAC tournament by defeating Bethany, 3-2, in the championship game Saturday with a three-run walk-off home run.
