Tabor soccer rebounds versus Avila

The Tabor men?s soccer team defeated Avila University, 3-1, Friday after suffering its first shutout (1-0) to Southwestern Christian University on the Bluejays? home field Sept. 13.

The Bluejays now have a 4-2 record, while the women are 2-4 after splitting matches with Avila and SCU.

Avila?Marian Saar scored for the Tabor men at 37:00 in the first half for a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Robert Masson extended the lead to 2-0 at 58:57 in the second half.

Saar scored another goal with an assist from Masson at 58:57 in the second half. Avila?s Trent Nichol avoided a shutout with a score at 67:34 for the 3-1 final.

The women?s team lost 3-0. Avila scored two goals in the first half, at 18:26 and 19:20, before adding one more at 48:54 in the second half.

Tabor goal keeper Stephanie Gartner recorded a save at 90:00.

Southwestern Christian?Against Southwestern Chris?tian, Robert Masson and Pedro Zavagna each had two shots at the goal.

SCU?s lone score came in the second half at 69:51.

Tabor?s Dalton Burkhard was a bright spot for the Bluejays, recording nine saves.

The Tabor women fared better, claiming a 2-0 win. Jessica Renzelman scored in the first half at 45:00, with an assist from Megan Beals. Beals had her own moment in the second half, scoring the Bluejays? second goal at 45:00.

Kalee Cross recorded seven saves for Tabor.

Coming?The Bluejays were scheduled to play at Manhattan Christian College Sept. 20 before playing traveling Saturday to Central Christian College at McPherson.

Men?s games begin at 7 p.m. against MCC and 8 p.m. against CCC.

Women?s games begin at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
