Tabor men?s soccer teams ties with Ottawa

The Tabor men?s soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie with Ottawa Saturday after two overtimes could not decide the contest.

Both teams scored their only goal in the first half, with Ottawa?s Matt Abbott scoring at 4:42 off a Michael Mesle assist, and Tabor?s Derick Burkhard scoring at 35:25 off an assist from Robert Masson.

The tie, which puts them at 9-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference, comes after a 2-1 defeat of Southwestern College Oct. 12.

The Bluejays struck first, with Masson driving in a goal at 52:31 off a Giovanni Martinez assist, and Jordan Maska scoring at 67:43 off an assist from Marian Saar.

The Builders responded with a goal at 70:58 from Karlo Sanchez, but it was not enough to prevent a 2-1 Tabor victory.

The Tabor women were not so lucky, falling to Ottawa, 3-1, after losing to Southwestern, 4-1. The losses put them at 4-9 for the season and 0-5 in the KCAC.

Tabor and Ottawa were tied in the first half, with Ottawa?s Amanda Talbott driving the ball home at 1:18 before Bluejay victoria Cantu tied it at 14:55.

But the Braves tacked on two more scores in the second half, one from Amanda Just at 54:13 and the second from Tara Wood at 71:07 with a Talbott assist.

Against Southwestern, the Builders scored four unanswered goals in the first half, two from Kaci Hutch?in?son, the first from Sierra Meyer and the last from Vanessa Saltos.

Tabor Molly Clark scored off a Megan Beals assist at 60:30 to save the shutout for the Bluejays.

Coming ?The men?s team is scheduled to play at home versus Kansas Wesleyan Oct. 19, with the game starting at 7 p.m. The women begin play at 5 p.m.

They are scheduled to host Bethel College Saturday, with games beginning at 8 p.m. for the men and 6 p.m. for the women.
