Without two key players in the lineup, the Tabor College men?s basketball team rang in the new year with a split at the annual Holiday Classic last weekend.
The Bluejays took to the court without starters Cody Arnold and Damon Dechant. Arnold is out for the season with an ACL tear while Dechant is recovering from a leg injury.
Tabor opened the Classic with an impressive 89-58 victory over Culver-Stockton College of Canton, Mo., New Year?s Eve.
Led by Max Frise, the Bluejays jumped to a commanding lead over CSC, taking a 24-point advantage into halftime.
Tabor never looked back and stretched the lead to 31 points in the second half.
Four Bluejays scored in double digits against CSC. Frise led the team with 26 points while Ryan Chippeaux added 15. Lawson Kingsley and Dylan Clark-Kanaeble chipped in 11 and 10, respectively.
Frise also led the team in rebounds with seven.
Tabor opened 2011 Saturday with a 70-63 loss to Graceland University.
The Bluejays and Yellowjackets fought back and forth through the first half with Graceland taking a four-point lead into intermission.
Both teams continued to battle into the second half. Tabor tied the score and even took a short lead early in the half before foul trouble allowed Graceland to retake the lead and and push it to seven by the end of regulation.
Kinglsey led the offensive effort with 12 points. Frise and Chippeaux both added 11 while Clark-Kanaeble and Phillip Jimenez each contributed nine.
Clark-Kanaeble led the Jays in rebounds with six while Jimenez and Chippeaux contributed four each.
Coming?The Bluejays return to action in North Newton at 8 p.m. Thursday against Bethel College. Tabor will then travel to McPherson College to face the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Saturday.
