Tabor hosts cross-country meet

Tabor hosted its annual invitationl Saturday on campus this fall.

Brielle Lund was the Bluejays? top finisher, placing sixth in 22 minutes, 19 seconds. She was the KCAC?s top finisher.

?(Lund) beat three women from conference schools who had beaten her at the Friends Invite a couple weeks ago, the best of whom had been 44 seconds ahead of her and was the closest Saturday at 1:22 behind her,? said coach Dan Swaney.

?I think this shows that when she gets on a course with better conditions that she’s set to run a really good time.?

The other women competing were Erin Flaming (45th, 24:41), Mackenzie King (56th, 25:33), and Elissa Richert (89th, 28:01).

Dylan Crawford was first for the men?s team, placing 35th in 30:02.

Also running for Tabor was Nathan Vogel (52nd, 30:49), Jacob Heil (56th, 31:05) Matt Spurgeon (62nd, 31:26), Teal Stutzman (101th, 37:07) and Eric Funk (40:15).

Despite the weather, Swaney was pleased with the meet.

?All in all I’d say our home meet went pretty well on Saturday,? he said. ?We had a larger field than last year in both the men’s and women’s races. It was unfortunate that the ground was so wet from the rain we got last Thursday. It really slowed the times down.?

He added, ?From what I can tell, the women’s times were 2 minutes to 2:20 slower than they could have been on a firmer course and the men?s were a minute to 1:20 slower. So when you take that into account I think most of the team ran pretty well.?

Coming?Tabor will be in action again Friday at the Jock?s Nitch Invitational in Emporia.
