Tabor hires first swimming coach

Nathan Duell has been hired as the first head men?s and women?s swimming coach at Tabor College.

?Coach Duell brings not only depth of experience as a swim coach, but depth of character and commitment to integrating the Christian faith,? said Rusty Allen, vice president for intercollegiate athletics at Tabor. ?We look forward to his arrival on campus in late December.?

Duell comes to Tabor as both the owner and head coach of Goshen (Ind.) Swimming Inc. as well as the head boys? and girls? swim coach at Goshen High School.

The Goshen Swim Club has more than 75 swimmers involved. Duell was named the Northern Lakes Con?ference Boys Swim Coach of the Year in 2012.

After an impressive collegiate swimming career at Wheaton (Ill.) College, where he was a two-time NCAA Divi?sion III All-American, Duell was head coach of the Con?cordia Swim Club in Elkhart, Ind.

His teams regularly were among the top 25 at state championships. While serving as head coach from 2000-2004, his team maintained a roster size of 100-plus athletes.

?I am thoroughly excited and honored to be starting a swim program at Tabor College,? Duell said. ?To be able to establish a standard of excellence for future teams is a great challenge and one I am looking forward to.?

Duell added, ?As the only college in Kansas to offer men?s and women?s swimming, it is a great opportunity to meet the needs of the excellent swimmers in the state so they can continue their passion at the next level.

?In an era that has seen swimming programs fall by the wayside in the interests of supporting other sports programs, I applaud the administration at Tabor for recognizing the power of swimming and for opening the doors for so many new students to enjoy the Tabor experience.?
