Four Bluejays represent Tabor College on the 2016-17 preseason basketball teams announced by the KCAC last week.
Women—Two Bluejay forwards were recognized on the preseason team: seniors Tena Loewen and Jurnee Reid.
Loewen was a second-team NAIA All-American a year ago and was also named to the All-KCAC first team and the defensive team. Loewen was Tabor’s leader in points (9.4), rebounds (7.4) and assists (1.6) per game a year ago. She ranked 43rd nationally in offensive rebounds per game (3.1). Loewen turned in five double-double performances a year ago, and earned the Hustle Award at the national tournament.
Reid was a second-team selection a year ago. She led the team in steals with 1.7 per game and scored an average of 9.2 points per game. She ranked 50th nationally in steals (62).
Men—Two Bluejay seniors were named to the preseason team: Lance Carter and Jonathan Gibson.
Carter was a second team NAIA All-American last year. He was also named the KCAC Player of the Year and was a member of the All-KCAC first team. Carter led the Bluejays in points (18.3), rebounds (8.1) and assists (5.5) per game last year.
Carter ranked eighth nationally in assists (188), 11th in assists per game, 24th in rebounds (274), 27th in scoring (621), 42nd in rebounds per game, 44th in defensive rebounds per game (5.8) and 47 in points per game.
Gibson was the KCAC Defensive Player of the Year and was an honorable mention recipient. Gibson led the team in blocks per game (2.2). He turned in per-game averages of 5.7 points and 6.1 rebounds. He ranked eight in blocks (67) and 11th in blocks per game.
