Tabor College tennis player Jessica Emoto finished seventh in the nation with a 1-2 record at the 2015 USTA/ITA National Small College Tennis Championships in Sumter, S.C. Oct. 15-18.
?Jessica played very well,? coach John Ruder said. ?Despite the scores, she was in both of the first two matches. Lots of long rallies and close games.
?I was extremely proud of her and wouldn?t trade her for any of the other players in the tournament.??
Competing as one of eight women in the NAIA Singles bracket, Emoto faced No. 3 Lauren Stratman from Westmont Thursday and lost a 6-2, 6-2 game.
Emoto then faced Georgia Gwinnett?s Alyona Vasilyeva Friday and lost, 6-1, 6-0.
In the seventh-place match Saturday, Emoto defeated Puck Luttikhuis of Davenport, 6-4, 6-4.
To qualify for the national championships, Emoto won the regional qualifier in Omaha last month.
