Jessica Emoto and Illia Filanchuk represent Tabor College on their respective women’s and men’s preseason tennis teams as announced by the KCAC last week.
Emoto is a returning first-team selection and is one of seven athletes on the 2017 preseason women’s team. She was a unanimous KCAC Most Valuable Player selection a year ago and was also named Scholar Athlete of the Year. Emoto went 15-1 in singles and 12-4 in doubles a year ago and was a member of the ITA’s NAIA All-America Team.
After winning the Regional Championships with a 5-0 record, Emoto went 1-2 in the ITA Oracle Cup last October to finish seventh overall.
Filanchuk was a second-team selection a year ago and is one of six athletes on the 2017 preseason men’s team. He was a unanimous selection for Newcomer of the Year last season.
Filanchuk went 5-3 in KCAC play, 11-5 overall. In doubles with partner Angel Miguel, the pair went 6-2, 11-5. Filanchuk was one match from going to nationals last September.
