Brown earns first in singles, doubles

The Tabor men?s tennis team competed at the men?s KCAC team tournament at the Riverside Tennis Center in Wichita Thursday. The men lost to McPherson College in semi-final No. 1.

Both of the Tabor men lost in singles, including No. 1 David Simmet (6-1, 6-1) and No. 2 Nathan Panttaja (6-0, 6-1). The Bulldogs swept Tabor in doubles as well, defeating No. 1 Simmet and Clay Shewey (8-3), No. 2 Kelyn Vix and Tyler Dort (8-5) and No. 3 Jakob Brucks and Jeremy Reiswig (8-2).

The Tabor men and women competed at the KCAC Individual tennis tournament in Salina Saturday.

?I was extremely happy with how our teams competed,? said coach Chad Gayer.

?Our men represented the team well, finishing second and third in several events, and reaffirming that we belong in the top three teams of the conference. Our women were able to avenge several of our losses from earlier in the year.?

Senior Amanda Brown went out with a bang, taking the Bluejays? only golds of the day with a win in No. 3 singles and a No. 1 doubles? win with teammate Amanda Faber, avenging an earlier-season loss with an 8-4 victory.

?Brown and Faber played the most complete match I have seen them play,? Gayer said. ?We maintained a very high level of play throughout the entire match.?

Garnering second place in singles for the Tabor women were No. 1 Amanda Faber, No. 2 Becky Faber and No. 6 Karly Lindroth-Yates. Finishing third was No. 4 Anna Friesen, with No. 5 Marissa Heit taking fifth.

In doubles, No. 2 B. Faber and Friesen took second and No. 3 Hiett and Lindroth-Yates finished sixth.

On the men?s side, finishing third in singles were No. 4 Tyler Dort, No. 5 Sam Brucks and No. 6 Jeremy Reiswig. Taking fourth were No. 1 David Simmet, No. 2 Nathan Panttaja and No. 3 Kelyn Vix. In doubles, third-place finishers were No. 2 Vix and Dort and No. 3 Brucks and Reiswig. No. 1 Simmet and Clay Shewey placed fifth.

The women?s team will lose Brown and A. Faber to graduation.

A. Faber made the KCAC First-Team All-Conference, while Brown and B. Faber received Second Team All-Conference honors.
