Bluejays fourth in regular season

After a 4-0 week, the Tabor College softball team finished fourth in the Shortstop Arizona Schraeder makes the catch to secure the third out in the top of the sixth inning of Game 1 with Oklahoma Wesleyan Friday. Tabor won the game, 3-0, and went on to sweep the Eagles with an 8-5 win in Game 2.regular-season conference standings with a 15-7 KCAC record, 30-17 overall.

Oklahoma Wesleyan—Tabor’s doubleheader with the Eagles initially set for April 1 was rescheduled a second time last week, this time moved from Saturday to Friday because of rain in the forecast.

Tabor swept the outing, winning Game 1, 3-0.

The Bluejays out-hit the Eagles, 9-4, and scored their first run in the third inning when Brianna Quiroz hit a solo home run over the center-field fence.

Tabor added two runs off three hits in the fifth inning. Shanae Strate led off with a triple, then Dani Calder hit an RBI single. Kerrigan Travens also drove in a run with a base hit.

Madison Byrd (20-7) went the distance for the Bluejays to earn the pitching win. Over seven innings, she gave up four hits while walking two Eagles and striking out seven.

Travens and Byrd were both 2-for-3 at-bat.

Tabor won Game 2, 8-5.

This time, the Bluejays came from behind as the Eagles scored one run in each of the first two innings before Tabor scratched one run across in the bottom of the second inning when Dani Calder hit an RBI single.

Oklahoma Wesleyan added to its 2-1 lead with a two-hit, two-run top of the fourth inning, which also included an error.

Tabor narrowed the gap to 4-3 by scoring two runs in the fifth inning when Arizona Schraeder worked a walk and Kaylie Felix hit a two-run home run.

The Eagles scored one run in the sixth inning to extend their lead before Tabor jumped in front with a five-hit, five-run bottom of the sixth inning. Hannah Jones hit a two-run double to key the frame. Two more runs scored via error. Felix drove in the final run with an RBI double.

Both teams made three errors in the game. Tabor out-hit the Eagles, 11-9.

Araselly Vargas was 3-for-4 at-bat. Felix had three RBIs.

Madison Byrd (21-7) earned the pitching win. In three innings of relief, she gave up four hits and one run (earned). She walked two batters and struck out five.

McPherson—Tabor swept a doubleheader Tuesday, outscoring the Bulldogs, 22-7.

The Bluejays won Game 1, 12-2 in five innings.

Tabor scored four runs off five hits and an error in the second inning. Dani Calder hit a two-run single, Brianna Quiroz hit an RBI triple, and Arizona Schraeder drove in a run with a single.

The Bluejays outscored McPherson, 5-2 in the third inning. Tabor knocked out six hits in the half-inning, which was highlighted by Brittany Vankonynenburg’s two-run home run.

Tabor secured the run-rule win in the fifth inning, using two hits and an error. Kaylie Felix hit a walk-off three-run home run over the center field fence.

Calder was 3-for-3 at-bat and drove in two runs. Felix had three RBIs.

Madison Byrd (19-7) was the winning pitcher. In five innings, she gave up four hits and two runs (both earned). She walked no one and struck out nine batters.

Tabor won Game 2, 10-5.

The Bluejays built a 6-0 lead through two innings. Kaylie Felix hit an RBI double in the three-hit, one-run first inning.

Tabor then recorded six hits in the second inning. Brittany Vankonynenburg and Dani Calder hit RBI singles in the frame, Kerrigan Travens hit a two-run single, and Felix hit an RBI double.

Over the next three innings, McPherson closed the gap to 6-5, scoring two runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Tabor responded by scoring one run in the fifth inning when Araselly Vargas hit a leadoff double and scored on Vankonynenburg’s ground out.

The Bluejays scored three runs off two home runs in the sixth inning. Travens hit a two-run home run, then Felix hit a solo home run.

Travens and Felix were each 3-for-4 at-bat. Travens drove in four runs; Felix drove in three.

Stephanie Vejar (6-6) earned the pitching win. In 32⁄3 innings, she gave up five hits and three runs (all earned). She walked no one and struck out one batter. Madison Byrd (4) was credited with the save. She threw 21⁄3 innings of scoreless relief while giving up one hit.

Coming—The double elimination KCAC tournament begins today in Great Bend. As the No. 4 seed, the Bluejays (15-7, 30-17) will face No. 5 Oklahoma Wesleyan (13-9, 26-25) today at 6 p.m. With a win, Tabor would face the winner of No. 1 Ottawa (18-4, 34-16) and No. 8 Bethany (8-14, 20-29) Thursday at 11 a.m. The other half of the bracket features No. 3 Friends (16-6, 33-11) facing No. 6 Saint Mary (12-10, 19-27), and No. 2 Kansas Wesleyan (17-5, 31-14) facing No. 7 McPherson (11-11, 25-23). The championship will be played Friday.
