The Tabor College baseball team traded shutouts with conference opponent Bethany College at home in last Friday?s doubleheader, bringing the Bluejays? season record to 16-5.
The Bluejays won Game 1, 4-0, then lost the second game, 2-0.
?Our pitching was outstanding,? coach Mark Standiford said. ?We gave up just five hits in the doubleheader.
?Unfortunately, they were able to string some together in the second game, and we weren?t able to do that.?
Standiford said the Bluejays did not bat well and left some key runners on the bases.
Tabor scored first in Game 1, putting up one run in the fourth inning after three scoreless innings.
They tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth on the way to the shutout win.
Clayton Maloy led the Blue?jays with three runs batted in, and Kori Melo contributed one. Maloy scored twice and teammates Colby Tessendorf and Josh Hoefler each scored a run.
Jonathon Murray pitched seven innings for Tabor, allowing no runs, only one hit and striking out none.
In Game 2, Bethany scored the only two runs of the contest in the third and fourth innings, shutting out Tabor every inning.
Melo, Koby Temple, Adam McCormick and Tanner Stevenson each had one hit in the game.
David Ormiston pitched six innings, allowing two runs and four hits and striking out eight.
Darius Iacono pitched one inning for Tabor, allowing no runs, no hits with no strikeouts.
?Hopefully, we can start to work ourselves out of the slump we?re in and find some wins in Oklahoma,? Standiford said.
The Bluejays were scheduled to play a doubleheader with Bethany on the road last Saturday, but those games were postponed due to rain, and rescheduled for Monday, March 28.
They also were scheduled to play a doubleheader at Manhat?tan Christian College last Tuesday, March 15, but those games were rained out.
Coming?The Bluejays were scheduled to travel to Oklahoma to play a doubleheader at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist University on Monday. They will then hit the road to play at St. Gregory?s University Tuesday.
Tabor is scheduled to play a doubleheader at home versus McPherson College Thursday before facing off with McPherson on the road Saturday.
