Bluejay soccer teams pick up wins against York, Doane

The Tabor men?s soccer teams picked up back-to-back wins this weekend on a road trip to Nebraska, taking down York College and Doane College to improve to 3-1 for the season.

The women?s team earned a split over the weekend defeating York but losing to Doane.

Tabor is scheduled to play Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, Okla., Wednesday, with games scheduled for 4 p.m. for the women and 5:30 p.m. for the men.

Men?Tabor shut out York College on Friday, 4-0.

Adam Morley scored first for the Bluejays off a pass from Philipp Wahl in the 31st minute. Just before the end of the first half, David Simmet would score off an assist from Marian Saar to put the Bluejays up by two.

In the 52nd minute, Spencer Nemnich took a pass from Aram Najar and scored. Wahl put the ball in the goal once more on an assist from Saar to complete the scoring. Goal-keeper Ben Clark picked up four saves, as the Bluejays outshot the Panthers 21-7 and 11-4 with shots on goal.

Tabor earned its second shut-out in a row Saturday night with a 2-0 win over Doane College. That makes 135 minutes of play in which the Jays? defense has not allowed a goal.

The Bluejays got their first points on an own goal by Doane in the 23rd minute. Tabor got things rolling in the second period when Wahl found the goal off a pass from Saar during the 57th minute of play. Clark got the start at the net and registered two saves. The Bluejays outshot the Tigers, 22-10, and 9-3 with shots on goal.

Women?Tabor picked up its second win in a road match with York College Friday night, 1-0.

Nicole Stevenson took the pass from Molly Dick and scored in the 61st minute to give Tabor the only goal of the match. Goal-keeper Amber Mayer recorded seven saves in the shutout as they outshot the Panthers, 12-8.

Tabor suffered a 9-1 loss against Doane College on Saturday. The Bluejays scored first, with Stevenson finding the goal 10 minutes into the game. Doane scored goals in the first half in the 19th, 38th and 45th minutes, adding six more goals in the second period.

Junior Kalee Cross and classmate Mayer combined to stop 11 shots as the Bluejays were outshot, 37-4, and 20-3 with shots on goal.
