Joel Allen led the Tabor College men?s cross-country team to a third-place finish at its invitational meet Saturday at Marion Reser?voir?s Cottonwood Point.
Allen won the race with a time of 26 minutes, 40.81 seconds, beating Friends? Easton Moore by less than one second. Garrett Daugherty placed fifth in 27:42.27.
Phillip Magos placed 21st (29:28.93), Tyler Parrish 29th (29:54.25), Bret Mueller 31st (30:14.04) and Josh Richert 34th (30:52.29) in a field of 70.
As a team, Tabor placed third of eight with 77 points behind Friends (48) and McPherson (52).
?The race had a very competitive field of runners, and I am pleased with the effort our men put forth,? coach Eric Schwab said.
Meanwhile, Hannah Holmes led the Bluejay women, finishing second in a field of 67 in 20:07.33.
?(Hannah) ran very smart and gave herself a chance to place high,??Schwab said. ?There were only nine seconds separating first from third.?
Paula Young finished 22nd (22:03.01), Katey Whitesell 25th (22:08.61), Allie Jost 34th (23:30.48), Kaylee Schmidt 45th (25:11.60) and Jessica Vix 48th (25:56.26).
As a team, Tabor placed fifth with 110 points. Friends won with 40.
?Finishing ahead of three other teams was a nice accomplishment for our women,? Schwab said. ?I was very excited for them.?
Coming?Tabor will travel to Lawrence for the NAIA preview meet Oct. 11.
