Allen paces Tabor cross country

The Tabor College cross country team kicked off the 2014 season at Augusta Saturday.
?We had an excellent meet on Saturday,? coach Eric Schwab said. ?All the men and women who ran the same race last year saw nice improvements in their times.
?Our team members are feeling very good about what they were able to accomplish with their summer training.?
Joel Allen paved the way for the men?s team by finishing 14th among a field of 129 runners in the 6-k race with a time of 19 minutes, 8.39 seconds.
?Joel bettered all the other KCAC runners in the race and also showed a nice improvement over his performance last year,? Schwab said.
Garrett Daugherty placed 31st in 19:45.01. Bret Mueller was 50th (20:26.21); Phillip Magos 71st (20:59.76); Josh Richert 89th (21:28.73); and Tyler Parrish 123rd (23:59.24).
As a team, the Tabor men placed fourth of 10.
Hannah Holmes, meanwhile, paced the Bluejay women in the 4-k race. She finishing 30th among a field of 116 runners with a time of 15:36.52.
?Hannah saw a huge improvement over last year and had what might have been the best cross country race of her life,? Schwab said.
Paula Young finished 64th (17:06.99); Allie Jost 101st (18:36.18); Kaylee Schmidt 108th (19:30.86); and Jessica Vix 111th (19:57.44).
As a team, the Tabor women placed 10th.
Coming?Tabor will host an invitational meet at the Marion Reservoir at Cottonwood Point Sept. 27. The women?s race is schedule for 9:30 a.m., with the men?s race to follow at 10:15 a.m.
