2 Bluejays feted on All-America teams

Two members of the Tabor College tennis teams have received recognition on their respective women’s and men’s All-America teams as announced by the NAIA last week.

Jessica Emoto represents the 9-6 Bluejay women as one of 16 first-team All-America selections. She was 20-3 at No. 1 singles this season, including a perfect, 9-0 in KCAC play. In doubles, she was 10-4 overall, 7-2 in the conference. As a team, Tabor finished third in the KCAC.

Emoto, who also achieved All-American honors last year, ranks first in the ITA Central and 13th nationally. She is a two-time KCAC Women’s Tennis MVP and was a unanimous first-team selection. She went 1-2 in the 2016 ITA Oracle Cup.

She was also the national women’s recipient of the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award for the second consecutive year. She has twice earned NAIA Academic All-American honors and three times was named a KCAC Scholar Athlete.

Meanwhile, Illia Filanchuk represents the 4-11 Bluejay men as a second-team All-America selection. He went 19-3 at No. 1 singles this season, 7-1 in KCAC play. In doubles, he was 12-5 overall, 6-2 in the conference. Filanchuk went 5-1 in the ITA Regional Championships.
