Bluejay men lose two at Tiger Classic

The Tabor College men?s basketball team lost two games at the Tiger Classic in Crete, Neb. Friday and Saturday.

Tabor opened the Tiger Classic with an 87-80 loss to Doane Friday. The Bluejays held a 35-28 lead at halftime, but Doane outscored Tabor by 14 in the second half for the comeback victory.

Tabor shot 52.8 percent from the field, compared with 44.8 percent for Doane. The Tigers held an 18 to 8 advantage in points off turnovers, and a 13 to 5 edge in second-chance points. The lead changed hands 18 times.

Malik Brooks led Tabor in scoring with 17 points. Chance LeBlanc added 14, and Jonathan Gibson 13.

Tabor sustained a second loss Saturday, falling to Hastings, 71-60. The Broncos ended the first half with a 7-0 burst that gave them a 36-27 halftime advantage.

Tabor shot 38 percent from the field, compared with 41 percent for Hastings.

Andrew Thomas turned in a double-double performance, leading the Bluejays with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Dewayne Biggs and Chance LeBlanc each added 12 points.

Oklahoma Baptist?Ranked tied for 20th in the NAIA Division II Preseason Top 25 poll, Tabor narrowly lost to No. 12 NAIA Division I opponent Oklahoma Baptist Monday to open the season.

Tabor lost to the Bison, 82-80, having held a narrow, 34-32, lead at the break.

John Jedneak and Malik Brooks shared top scoring honors for Tabor with 18 points apiece. Andrew Thomas added 10.

Oklahoma Baptist out-rebounded Tabor 50-38. Tabor shot 44.6 percent from the field, compared with 37.1 percent for the Bison.

Coming?Tabor (0-3) will play at York Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
