Hillsboro falls to Beloit in semi-finals

BELOIT- Despite falling down early, 32-7, at half, the Hillsboro Trojans made a game of their semi-final match-up with Beloit in the second half, but ultimately, fell, 32-27 last Friday on the road.

After the rough first half, Hillsboro got out their passing offense and Matthew Potucek was hitting receivers the whole second half for big games, refusing to go down without a fight.

The first big throw of the second half came when Potucek hit Duncan Duell for a 17-yard score to bring Hillsboro to a 32-13 deficit.

The comeback and the big throws continued when Potucek hit Nicholas Smith for a 92-yard touchdown to get the score to 32-21 midway through the fourth.

Potucek would get one more touchdown pass on the half when he hit Jaxxon Hanschu for a 11-yards and a score to get Hillsboro to 32-27.

The comeback came up short when the Hillsboro onside kick was recovered by Beloit. Hillsboro shut out Beloit in the second half, but came up just short of completing the comeback and advancing in the playoffs. They end the season with a 9-2 record.

Goessel loses to Meade in playoffs

GOESSEL- The storybook season came to a close for the Goessel Bluebirds last Friday when they lost to Meade in the playoffs, 70-20.

Meade came in and dominated from the start and made it tough for Goessel to get going offensively.

Goessel got on the board late in the first half when Jake Wiens ran for a 19-yard touchdown to close the Meade lead to 26-8.

He would get another breakaway run, this one for 63-yards, later in the game, to get the score to 34-14.

The last Goessel score came when Grant Bryant ran for a 5-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Goessel finishes their season 8-3.
