STATE TRACK
Canton-Galva?Senior Trey Moddelmog represented the Eagles at the All-Class state track meet at Wichita State?s Cessna Stadium Friday and Saturday.
Moddelmog placed 10th in the Class 2A high jump (5-10).
Centre?Five girls represented Centre at the Kansas Track and Field Championships in Wichita last weekend.
Brenna Shields posted the second fastest time of her career in the 400-meter dash preliminaries, finishing 15th in 1:05.27, but did not qualify for finals.
Carlotta Benning, Nellie Kassebaum, Callie Riffel and Shelby Makovec finished 12th in the 4×800 relay (11:16.90).
This season, the girls re-set the school record three times, achieving their best time of 10:46.84 at the Valley Heights regional May 22. They also set a Wheat State League meet record this year.
For all five, it was the end of their Centre track careers, with Kassebaum, Makovec, Riffel and Shields graduating and foreign-exchange student Benning returning to Germany.
Goessel?The Bluebirds brought home three medals from the Kansas Track and Field Championships in Wichita last weekend.
Freshman Brittney Hiebert paved the way by medaling in two events. Hiebert turned in her best performance in her third and final race. She ran the 800-meter in a personal-best 2:27.45 Saturday, earning her the third-place medal. Hiebert also placed fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:38.83. She participated in the 400-meter, finishing 11th in the preliminaries (1:03.40), but did not qualify for finals.
Junior Zach Wiens earned the Bluebirds? third medal, placing fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.19 Saturday. He qualified for finals with a preliminary time of 16.58. Wiens also participated in the 300-meter hurdles but did not qualify for finals, finishing 13th in the preliminaries (44.95).
Rounding out the Bluebird competitors, sophomore Olivia Duerksen placed 13th in the high jump (4-8); senior Rachel Manis, freshman Julia Nightengale and sophomores Jennifer Meysing and Lauren Rymill placed 14th in the 4×800 relay (11:28.56); and Meysing placed 16th in the 3,200 (14:31.30).
Senior Erin Brubaker finished 16th in the 300-meter hurdles preliminaries (55.55), while junior Aleena Cook was 16th in the 200-meter dash preliminaries Friday (29.18). Neither qualified for finals.
Goessel graduated only two of its state qualifiers: Manis and Brubaker.
Peabody-Burns?Junior Cody Partridge represented the Warriors at the All-Class state track meet Friday and Saturday at Wichita State?s Cessna Stadium. Partridge placed ninth in the Class 2A long jump with a leap of 19-41?4.
STATE GOLF
Centre?Junior Nathaniel Engler represented the Cougars at the Class 1A state golf tournament hosted by Frankfort at Spring Creek Golf Course Tuesday.
Engler carded an 18-hole score of 121 to place 63rd among 79 finishers. Leavenworth-Immaculata?s Dawson Schroeder won with a 75.

Senior Lawton Makovec led the way by carding an 18-hole score of 106 to place 44th among a field of 79 finishers.
Senior Kellen Froese shot a 121 (62nd); senior Rhett Makovec a 129 (67th); senior Lucas Hiebert a 132 (70th) and junior Luke Unruh a 135 (74th).
As a team, the Bluebirds finished 10th of 11 schools with a score of 488. Leavenworth-Immaculata won with a 360.
