The HHS Trojans are the 2A Regional Champions after beating the Chaparral Roadrunners in Friday night’s competition 41 to 14. The Trojans will advance in the playoffs and travel to Beloit this week.

Goessel

Football- The dream season keeps going for Goessel who shellacked Macksville last Friday, 50-16, in the playoffs.

Goessel got the scoring going with a two-yard plunge from Grant Bryant early in the first quarter to put them up 6-0. Macksville responded with a short touchdown run of their own. Goessel then reeled off 30 straight unanswered points in dominating fashion, which started with the kickoff of Macksville’s previous score.

Jake Flaming caught the kick-off and then zoomed 74-yards for a touchdown to immediately reclaim the momentum for the Bluebirds. Bryant got another two-yard touchdown run to finish out the first quarter with Goessel up 22-8 and Macksville never had much of a shot after that.

Goessel’s offense was impressive for the game, but it was the defense that likely secured the victory. Goessel turned Macksville over four times in the game, one fumble and three interceptions.

Bryant led all rushers in the game with 148 yards and four touchdowns. He also threw a touchdown pass in the game. Jake Wiens had 114 yards rushing and a touchdown of his own, while Caiden Duerksen had 35-yards receiving and a touchdown for the game.

Coming- Goessel will host Meade (10-0) in the sectional round next Friday at 6 p.m. Meade beat WaKeeney-Trego in the last round 54-6.

Hillsboro

Football- Racking up 455 yards of offense, Hillsboro steamrolled Chaparral (7-0) in the playoffs last Friday, 41-14, to earn their way into the next round.

Hillsboro wasted no time with Matthew Potucek putting the Trojans on the board with a 9-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to put Hillsboro up 6-0.

Potucek later hit Nicholas Smith on a 16-yard pass and score to put Hillsboro up 13-0 in the second quarter. He also hooked up with Duncan Duell for a seven-yard touchdown pass to put the Trojans up 19-0.

Chaparral wouldn’t respond until Hillsboro had 33 unanswered points on the board and the game was well in hand.

Potucek led the way offensively throwing for 259 yards and two touchdowns and also rushing for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Jamari Harris had 72 yards and two touchdowns as well for the Trojans on the ground.

Duell led all receivers with 104 yards and a touchdown for the game.

In all, Hillsboro nearly doubled Chaparral offensively for the game, and racked up a staggering 20-first downs.

Coming— The Trojans will travel to Beloit (7-3) on Friday in the sectional round of the playoffs. Beloit beat Cimarron (7-2) 51-6 in the previous round.
