New business coming to Marion in February

Dorothy’s Coffee House and Tea Room will be opening up at the beginning of February. It is located in a former house across the street from the Historic Elgin Hotel on Third Street in Marion.

While the business is separate from the Elgin, it’s still all in the family. Glenda and Duke McCord, mom and step-dad to Elgin owner Tammy Ensey, own Dorothy’s and brother-in-law Jerry Mendoza is operating it.

Dorothy’s will be run out of the newly remodeled space downstairs, but there is even more planned for the building.

“Down the road, the hope is to have a counseling center on the second floor where we could do marriage and family counseling. We will maybe do retreats where people could stay here at the Elgin and eat here and then go there during the day to do the work,” said Ensey. “It is still being renovated upstairs.”

There is a need for the new business as there are not places in Marion like it. It will be a place for locals, Elgin guests and guests in general to enjoy.

“Sometimes you just want to have some coffee and hang out,” said Ensey.
