Hillsboro High School student April Young placed first in her STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition) event on financial planning at the State FCCLA Leadership Academy, April 3-4, in Wichita.
She will attend the 2008 National Leadership Meeting in Orlando from July 13-17.
The Hillsboro Chapter attended and participated in various ways. Brittany Davis and Becky Steketee received the ?Community Service – Blood Drive? recognition certificate.
Viktoriat Bichet was a student judge and Evana Holtsclaw was an escort for the Parlaw contests. Monica Leihy, advisor, was a room consultant for Parlaw.
The STAR contests on Thursday were followed by an award ceremony and semi-formal dance.
Friday was the state convention at Century II. Katrina Muzyka was installed as District G vice president of finance. Ashlyn Simmons and Rhiannon Janzen were voting delegates for state and national officer candidates and changes in the bylaws of the state organization.
Others in attendance were Vanesa Romero, Diane Muzyka and Tammy Shaw.
Following the state meeting, the group enjoyed dinner and a show at the Mosley Street Dinner Theater. Ben and Mary Steketee joined the group.
