Volunteers work to open Florence skating rink

Connor Pereillo was one of many volunteers getting the new skating rink in the Florence gymnasium ready for its opening May 20. The rink is open to all, but for those wanting to skate, officials suggest calling ahead to make sure they have a person?s size in stock. If not, orders are still being taken. The idea for a roller skating rink was initiated by the Florence Focus Group, Vision Impact Team and Florence Recreation. All proceeds from the rink will go to the city?s recreation fund to be used for other recreation activities and expenses. According to Holly Pereillo, recreation director, they have received several private donations. Anyone who would like to contribute can do so by e-mailing Pereillo at: recdirector@florenceks.com. For questions, call 316-305-1780. For now, the rink will be open once a month and season passes are available.
