USD 410 school board wraps up business quickly

USD 410 Board of Education met Monday evening and completed its agenda in less than an hour.

Superintendent Max Heinrich reviewed the 2016-17 budget, which was published Aug. 3 at its legal maximum of 61.79 mills, a decrease from 63.04 from last year.

The goal, Heinrich said, was to try and keep the mill levy flat. With additional dollars generated by the recent school equalization bill.

Bond and interest mill levy will increase by 2.706 that will generate funds to pay off a 2018-19 bond. But the mill levy for the local option budget authority was lowered by 3.99 mills.

“We are balanced and looking,” Heinrich said about the upcoming fiscal year.

In his superintendent report, Heinrich highlighted maintenance done including replacing the HVAC unit in the wrestling room at Hillsboro High School, refinishing both gym floors and repairing a water leak at Hillsboro Elementary. He said the old gym has some roof issues that will need to be addressed.

Heinrichs also reviewed opening school events, which begin this week with orientation for Hillsboro Middle/High School Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Next week will entail teacher and staff meetings through the 17th.
