USD 398 to host bullying expert

USD 398-Peabody-Burns will be hosting bullying-prevention expert and consultant Joe Coles to work with K-12 students and to address the community on the issue Jan. 12.

?With the number of bullying incidents in the media recently, this issue has been brought to the forefront in the minds of many people,? said principal Ken Parry.

?Bullying is not only a school issue, but a community issue as well. Whenever two people are placed in a situation, there is an opportunity for bullying to occur, regardless of the age of the two individuals.?

In September, Coles addressed the topic for faculty and staff of USD 398.

In January, Coles will work with K-12 students during the day. In addition, he will speak on bullying prevention following a free sloppy-joe dinner from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Peabody-Burns High School. The meal will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Baby-sitting will be provided from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The public is invited to attend. To ensure sufficient food, patrons must make advanced reservations to eat. Reservations can be made by calling Peabody-Burns Elementary School at 620-983-2188.

The event is being hosted by USD 398 in conjunction with the USD 398 Site Council, Associa?tion of Churches and the PBES Parent-Teacher organization.
