Students and staff of USD 398-Peabody-Burns will be attending an Internet safety presentation Thursday, Feb. 18.
Ken Parry, crisis team director, has set up NetSmartz presentations by the Kansas Alliance of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
NetSmartz Workshop is an interactive resource developed by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
In addition, the USD 398 site council will sponsor a presentation for parents and educators at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, in the Peabody-Burns Elementary School multipurpose room. This workshop is designed to help parents and educators inform children about Internet safety.
All presentations will be age-appropriate and center on the following topics:
? cyberbullying: preventing victimization and responding to aggressors.
? social networking: creating safer profiles on Web sites such as Facebook or MySpace.
? texting: preventing the exchange of inappropriate messages and photographs.
? online predators: teaching children and youth to not meet in person with anyone they first met online.
? spyware, spam and scams: protecting your identity from online exploitation.
