Players, supporters and referees for the Marion and Hillsboro third/fourth-grade basketball teams gathered on the gym floor Saturday following their recreation league game in Marion to pray for Colton Rempel, a fourth-grader at Hillsboro Elementary School. Son of Robert and Sara Rempel, Colton had been experiencing headaches and nausea. He was diagnosed Friday at Salina Regional Health Center with having a mass on the left front lobe of his brain. Sara and Colton were flown that afternoon to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City to determine when surgery would be performed to remove the mass. Robert Rempel said the surgery, which was conducted Monday, went well, and the tumor will be sent off for testing. “We should have results within a week,” Rempel added. Jeremiah Lange, coach of the Marion team and a local pastor, “reminded everyone what is truly important is not the game of basketball, but how we care about other people,” according to Margo Yates, the city’s Parks and Recreation director. “It truly was one of the best moments in 15 years of doing this.” Courtesy photo by Drew Looper.
