A new sound will resonate from the Tabor College Music Department for the 2007-08 school year as a new mixed chorus, the Tabor College Community Chorale, takes the stage.
Tabor students, campus faculty and staff, and interested Hillsboro community and Marion County residents will form the new group.
?I am aware of a number of adults who are experienced singers and who enjoy singing in a choir,? said Bradley Vogel, associate professor of choral music. ?There are very few opportunities for them to sing, and (Tabor College) would like to offer this as that opportunity."
The Community Chorale will perform at least two concerts: a Christmas concert in early December and a joint spring concert with Tabor?s concert choir.
Launching the Community Chorale addresses two needs, Vogel said. First, it provides a choral opportunity for students not a part of the concert choir, although concert choir members can participate.
Second, the new chorale offers an opportunity for non-students in Marion County who enjoy singing.
?A choir of this sort does not exist in the vicinity, and we would like to offer an opportunity for adults who enjoy singing,? he said.
?I would like to see Tabor College as a focal point for arts in the community at large, and to be a place where continuing enjoyment and participation in the arts is possible.?
There are no age or experience requirements to join the Community Chorale, nor will members be expected to audition. Cost is $25 per semester, per person, in order to cover cost of materials.
Tabor students can enroll as part of their course load. Registration deadline will be in early September.
