Tabor to co-host concert for youth

The Southern District Youth Conference of the Mennonite Brethren Church and Tabor College are co-hosting a public concert featuring three contemporary Christian groups.

The Afters, Abandon Kansas and Dave Thompson, will be performing at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Newton High School, 900 W. 12th St.

Admission for the general public is $10 and $5 for current Tabor students.

According to Marc Penner, co-director of SDYC, this is the first headline concert the youth conference has hosted in many years. The last one was the Plankeye concert about 10 to 15 years ago.

?We wanted to try something new and special, so we contacted The Afters, Abandon Kansas and Dave Thompson as artists for the concert,? Penner said, adding that he hopes for a large turnout.

Linda Cantwell, vice president of enrollment management and marketing at Tabor, said she became eager for the college to co-sponsor the concert when she saw the event as a way for Tabor to reach the public and numerous Mennonite Brethren youth at the same time.
