The Tabor College centennial devotional book, ?A Tradition of Transformation,? has been released by the printer and will arrive on campus in time for Homecoming 2009 festivities this weekend.

Commissioned to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the college, ?A Tradition of Transformation? is a collection of stories and reflections on the Tabor College experience written by alumni, current and former professors, and other friends of the college.

Deborah Penner, professor of English and chair of the language and literature department, was the project editor.

The book will be unveiled and go on sale during the ?Alumni & Faculty Book Nook,? scheduled from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Java Jays coffee shop, located in the Student Center.

The book also will be sold at the Tabor College Bookstore throughout the weekend.

According to Penner, ?The devotional book represents several years of dedicated work by a team of editors, including current and former English department students Malinda Just, Sara Cook, Emily Hasty Toews and Heidi Glanzer.

?We also thank Tabor?s senior graphic designer, Diane Steiner,? for designing the cover and the contents.

?We trust that this book will be something readers, alumni and friends of the college will treasure for many years to come,? Penner said.

Penner worked with the alumni and advancement offices to send a letter requesting submissions from a list of potential contributors. Submissions also were requested through the alumni magazine.

Penner said she and her co-editors were inspired by the stories and reflections about their alma mater as they assembled the book, which spans 176 pages.

?We all treasure our positive memories of Tabor College, whether they were of academic or spiritual lessons learned, or of human relationships that were strengthened,? Penner said.

A Tradition of Transforma?tion, which sells for $15, also will be available online through the Tabor College JayShop and at Thee Bookstore in downtown Hillsboro..
