Tabor cheer squad offering program for youth

Children who have visions of becoming a cheerleader and learning the skills necessary to energize a crowd during a game may want to take advantage of a new program offered by the Tabor College cheer squad.

Bluejay All-Stars is a youth recreational program for ages 5-12, beginning this school year. The group will meet weekly from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday for basic cheer instruction. Tumbling and gymnastics skills will be taught on alternating Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for a total of six sessions per month.

Participants will receive training and have unique experiences in a sport that is both athletic and supportive, according to organizers. Funda?mental skills to be taught include jumps, motions, dance, stunting, gymnastics and tumbling.

The group will perform at several sporting events during the year. The club program will run September through November for the first semester and January through April for the spring session. The cost to participate is $50 per month.

The first All-Star practice will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7. A parent information meeting is planned for 4:10 p.m. in the Campus Recreation Center, the location for all practices.

For more information or to enroll a child, contact Tabor College cheer coach Jeremy Nigh at 620-877-0515 or Kathy Epp at 620-947-3121, ext. 1630.

Those who sign up by Sept. 7 will receive a free All-Star T-shirt.
