Rust signs to play at Tabor

Janelle Rust, a transfer from University of Mary in Bismark, N.D., has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Tabor College.

A native of Elbing, and a graduate of Berean Academy, Rust has played the past two seasons at the University of Mary, an NCAA Division II institution.

During her career at Mary, the Mauraders posted an overall record of 32-23 and this past season the team qualified for the NCAA Central Regional. Rust was named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Academic team following her sophomore season.

Rust, a 5-foot, 11-inch guard guard/wing, had an outstanding high school career at Berean Academy. She averaged 18.1 and six rebounds per game her senior year and was named first team all-state in Class 2A by the Hutchinson News, Wichita Eagle, Topeka Capitol Journal and the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.

During Rust?s four years at Berean, the girls? basketball team posted an overall record of 86-13 and won a state championship during her sophomore season, finishing the year with a record of 25-1.

?Janelle is a tremendous addition to our team,? said Tabor head coach Shawn Reed. ?To have a player with not only Janelle?s basketball abilities but also her character and leadership traits join our program is a true blessing. She will make an immediate impact on our squad and we are excited to have her.?

Rust averaged 17.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per game as a junior at Berean, earning first team all-league and all-region while landing on two all-tournament teams.

Her sophomore year, Rust was a second-team all-league performer and was named to an all-tournament team.

She is the daughter of Brenda and Paul Rust, who are both Tabor College alumni.
